The Board of Directors of the University City Arts League is delighted to announce the selection of Annette Monnier as its new Executive Director. Annette will step into leadership at the Arts League on January 12, 2015.
Annette Monnier comes to the Arts League with a strong background in arts education and nonprofit management. She worked most recently as Outreach Program Director at The Clay Studio where she managed the Claymobile, which partners with schools and community-based organizations to provide disadvantaged populations innovative, hands-on approaches to learning through the medium of ceramics. In this capacity Annette oversaw and implemented over 300 artist residencies, providing arts education to over 5,000 students.
“I believe strongly in the transformative power of art and its unique ability to inspire connection and fellowship among people from all social, economic and cultural backgrounds,” says Annette.
Annette Monnier is also the founder and co-director of several artist-run gallery spaces in Philadelphia and has organized influential exhibitions with an emphasis on the social and community aspects of art. She has served as an adjunct faculty member at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and is an accomplished critical art writer and blogger.
“The board was extremely impressed with Annette’s experience, her commitment to making the arts accessible to all, and her vision for the Arts League’s future,” says Board Chair Fern Glazer.
“Annette is a very creative person who has demonstrated the ability to successfully bring exciting new programming ideas from concept to fruition. Her energy and enthusiasm are contagious and we are thrilled to have her join the Arts League.”
