Exhibition Opportunities at UCAL

The University City Arts League is a nonprofit organization dedicated to education and cultural enrichment in the arts. The gallery at UCAL reserves between two and four months per year for in-house exhibitions, and is open to submissions from artists and curatorial proposals during the remaining months.

Mission Statement

The University City Arts League Gallery (UCAL) exhibits emerging and established artists to inspire, educate and engage the West Philadelphia community in the visual arts. The UCAL Gallery provides a contemporary exhibition space for regional artists, striving to be a cultural gathering place and active participant in the Philadelphia arts network.

Artist Submission Guidelines

The UCAL Gallery Committee welcomes submissions year-round from artists interested in presenting an exhibition of their work. The selection committee meets twice a year to select artists for exhibition. The deadlines for semiannual meetings in 2012 are May 15 and September 15. Every proposal is reviewed equally.

The Gallery Committee reviews submissions projected onto a screen; keep this in mind when formatting images for submission. The preferred format for images is jpeg, and for documents is pdf. Please follow these guidelines for submitting your work.

Mail or drop off a CD with the following:
  1. 10 - 20 images. Each image file must be in jpeg format at 72 dpi and 720 pixels wide (10 in). Save your images at the highest setting available (usually 10 or 12). Name your files with your last name, then first name and a title. Use an underscore to separate the names and title. Example: Smith_Jane_Starscape.jpg Note: please send images of work that is representative of what you would plan to exhibit if you were given a show.
  2. A titles list that includes the media, date and size of the works.
  3. A concise artist statement for the work submitted.
  4. A concise biography.
  5. Any other supporting material you would like to include (web links, reviews, catalogues, etc.)
  6. A self-addressed, stamped envelope for the return of your CD. We can’t return submissions without this.
  7. Insure your accurate contact information-mailing address, telephone number, and e-mail-is on the CD and all electronic documents you submit.
Submissions should be dropped off or addressed to:

The Gallery Committee will not review work that does not meet these guidelines. Each submission will be given our personal attention. The Gallery Committee will respond to submissions after each meeting, but we cannot offer feedback or reasoning for rejected submissions.
