Drawing Workshop: Introduction to the Picture Plane
Acclaimed artist and teacher, Roger Chavez, will lead a new one-day workshop at the University City Arts League on Sunday, November 13th at the Art Center, 4226 Spruce Street, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
Roger Chavez will lead the Drawing Workshop. Chavez, a working artist in Philadelphia for more than 15 years, now teaches at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and at Ursinus College. He studied at the Maryland College of Art and Design, The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and American University.
This workshop will begin with a brief lecture introducing the concept of the “picture plane” and space, beginning with the Renaissance and moving forward to Cubism and Modern Art. The class will study the picture plane and create extensive drawings using the interior as a subject matter.
Chavez’s current work includes monochromatic, dreamy landscapes and still lifes that seem to float in space. He is represented by Rosenfeld Gallery in Old City Philadelphia at http://www.therosenfeldgallery.com/. For more information, please contact the UCAL office.
