You may have already received the Arts League's Annual Giving letter. This letter summarizes the work that we have done this past year and requests your continued support in the upcoming year. It is with your support that we can continue to create and sustain a vibrant vehicle for the arts in West Philadelphia.

Dear Friends, For 45 years, the University City Arts League has proudly served as your community arts center. Like many of you, we have been through some challenging times. Today, we are pleased to report that the Arts League is at its most financially stable point in years! We have balanced the budget while growing at a rate of 10% in each of the last three years. We’ve made improvements to our beautiful historic building. We have made our facility safer by repairing the porch floor, securing loose railings and refurbishing the front door. For 2013, essential projects include upgrading the fire alarm system, replacing the boiler and improving the physical appearance of our art studios. Tending to our fiscal matters means we can focus on what we do best: building community through the arts. We are proud to report that our arts programs continue to grow and improve. The children's after-school arts classes are larger than ever, with 225 registrations this past fall — up 10% from last year. Summer youth arts camp, which didn’t even exist five years ago, expanded to 10 weeks in 2012, at full capacity. Last April, the Arts League began an outreach program with LIFE, the day facility for the infirm elderly at 45th and Chestnut, founded by the Nursing School of the University of Pennsylvania. Each week, Arts League instructors teach pottery, art and writing at LIFE. And our new arts after school program at the Powel School, in Powelton Village, which has no art teacher, continues to generate enthusiastic response from students and parents. Our gallery shows continue to draw large crowds each month. Art critics have written accolades about the Arts League’s exhibits and on our ability to recruit nationally recognized talent. In large part, the Arts League is growing because of you. Each gift we receive allows us to better serve our diverse community. Thanks to your contributions, we can reach children and families who may not be able to afford classes. When Nancy Cox, an Arts League founder and long-time board member, passed away this summer, her family asked that contributions be sent to the Arts League for "The Nancy Cox Youth Education Fund." We have heard from many of you who knew Nancy and want to let you know that it's not too late to make a contribution to that fund. Please make a gift today to support affordable, high-quality arts education in West Philadelphia. A donation of $200 provides a full week of camp for a child; $150 provides for 10 weeks of an after school arts class for one child; and a gift of $50 helps replenish our maintenance fund. Thank you sincerely for making the Arts League a priority in your giving.
