Color is the central component of painting, lying at the heart of its expressive and descriptive power. In this workshop students will learn to use color to easily express form and space, as well as giving a personal touch to their paintings. Students will paint from a dynamic still life composed by the instructor, but are encouraged to bring a meaningful or interesting object of their own to add to their composition (objects will remain safe and paint-free). The instruction begins at entry level, so no prior painting experience is necessary. The class format is open, however, creating room for students of all skill levels to grow and expand their practice.

Materials will be provided by the Arts League, but students are welcome to bring any additional painting tools or supplies they may have from home. The workshop will be offered three times, and is designed to be a stand-alone introduction to painting. However, as instruction is given individually, students wishing to take the workshop again will have fresh challenges and the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the medium.
