The Board of Directors of the University City Arts League (UCAL) is thrilled to announce Zoë Rayn Evans as its new Executive Director.
Zoë Rayn Evans has a decade-long background in the Philadelphia arts and culture field, and has demonstrated a deep passion for leading diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts within the arts community. “We are thrilled to welcome Zoë Rayn Evans as our new Executive Director,” said Marina Borker, Board Chair. “Zoë is a visionary, passionate, and pragmatic leader and a proven change agent. We know that she brings the experience and passion that will help UCAL through an exciting and transformative era. We feel very fortunate to have found her and look forward to working with her.”
Zoë will manage all day-to-day operations for UCAL, a storied community arts center known for its education and arts programming–both in-house and within the greater community. She has worked in both the commercial fine arts as well as non-profit sectors. Zoë’s notable projects include: the 2016 Democratic National Convention’s Truth to Power activation, An Immigrant Alphabet public art installation, (DIS)PLACED Philadelphia, Heritage West: The West Philadelphia Community Archaeology Project, and Friends of the Rail Park’s Time Capsule initiative. She comes to us from the University of Pennsylvania Penn Museum of Archeology and Anthropology, where she led community-driven programming and partnerships as the Collaborative Programs Manager. She is also the Founder of Caldera Magazine, an independent publication launched in 2018 championing the work of BIPOC and Queer artists.
“The intersections of arts-based programming, community, and social justice have been at the forefront of all of my professional interests for as long as I can remember. I believe that art, in all of its various forms, can serve as the catalyst for real, major, explosive change. UCAL is on the brink of true transformation — we’re dreaming, we’re taking risks, and we are ready to deepen our community partnerships, enhance our physical space- — and much more,” says Zoë Rayn Evans.
